Covid screens case study: A modern solution for Beamish Museum’s historic exhibits
Updated: Nov 19
Thousands of visitors to one of the North East's most popular tourist attractions will now be safer, after Glass & Mirror Solutions installed dozens of sneeze guard screens at Beamish Museum.
We were tasked with kitting out all of Beamish Museum’s customer service points with glass safety screens ahead of the site reopening following the Covid-19 shutdown.
Whether they’re craving the delights of Davy’s Fish Shop, the sticky treats of the 1900s sweet shop, or simply want to enjoy a chinwag with the guide in Beamish Motor & Cycle Works, Glass & Mirror Solutions’ screens will be helping to keep the museum’s day trippers socially distanced and safe.
The Covid screens had to be specially adapted to ensure they would provide a perfect fit without causing any damage to the antique counters at the ‘living museum’.
Graeme Hawes, director at Glass & Mirror Solutions, explained: “We’ve been very busy for the last couple of months, supplying and installing sneeze guard screens as businesses of all shapes and sizes have gradually reopened across the North East.
“But when Beamish Museum approached us for a solution to keeping their staff and customers safe, we knew this would be no ordinary job.
“Some of the museum’s counter tops are hundreds of years old, so obviously we couldn’t drill into the tops or risk damaging the surface with clamps to secure the screens. Many of the screens also had to fit around unique features, such as copper piping and service hatches, so they all had to be individually measured up, designed, manufactured and fitted.”
Glass & Mirror Solutions’ screens are now providing a Covid-safe barrier at customer service points including the main entrance, gift shop, the pharmacy, the sweet shop, the photography studio, the bakery and the fish shop.
Glass & Mirror Solutions supplies both fixed and portable toughened glass and acrylic screens with choice of portable feet or fixed clamp brackets, and an installation service is also available. We offer free delivery to many North East postcodes. Call 0191 375 8700 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
